Game 83: Gray the All Star & A Win

The Nats won 5-4 on Sunday in Philadelphia to take the weekend rubber match and Josiah Gray also found out he is headed to the MLB All Star Game for the first time in his young career. The Nationals won all 3 series on the road trip and went 6-3 overall on the three city tour. Al points out how well the team is playing on the road this year as they are 21-22 this season away from D.C.

(05:00) Gray is bound for Seattle at next week's Midsummer Classic. Gray makes it to the All Star Game less than two years after the Blockbuster trade with the Dodgers at the 2021 Trade Deadline.

(09:00) Among the snubs, were Jeimer Candelario and Lane Thomas. Al runs through some stats that makes their omissions difficult to swallow, but plenty of explainable All Star roster quirks are at play. Candelario did homer on Sunday as well in the victory.

(17:10) Stone Garrett came through as clean-up hitter with a go ahead Grand Slam, his 2nd one this season. The last player to pull that off for Washington? Gerardo "Baby Shark" Parra of course.

(19:00) Trevor Williams immediately allowed 3 runs, but did settle down to make it through 5 innings. Hear Al explain how Williams has been mediocre, but in a complimentary way. The "A" Bullpen came through again with plenty of clutch double plays; and saw significant contribution from recent addition Jose A. Ferrer.
